Behind
the Scenes Look of Independent Film Project Intruder:
The
Independent film project “Intruder” written by and staring Jeffery Kruger is
an action suspense thriller directed by long time friend and colleague Brian Spillane which takes the viewer on a roller-coaster
ride of plot twists and turns that begin when an attractive young woman returns home alone after a hard days work only to
be confronted by the Intruder!
Tony Carnaghi, owner of Carnaghi Productionswas there on location offering his expertise as sound engineer as the shooting of this project began.
I would like to take some
time to share with you on how I prepare to tackle various production challenges that can take place while making an indie
film in less than 48 hours. One of the first challenges
in the pro audio world while making a short film is being confined to a tight space surrounded by other gear that is necessary
to produce a polished program while also trying not to compromise each take by putting yourself and your gear in every shot.
The best way to over come this issue is to Rack Mount your pro audio gear in a Road Case for easy portability, set up/tear down
and confinement. What does one put in a case you ask? For this project I used a Pro Audio Mixer connected to a Compressor/Limiter run through a Fire
Wire Interface directly into my Laptop to maintain a consistent audio level throughout the recording. Because I used
an Audio Mixer I was able to output the signal back to the High Definition Video
Camera through the
line inputs using two 50 ft XLR cables.
This particular set up provided us with the flexibility to record a back up of audio directly to an attached External Hard Drive
used specifically to save
space for other useful business related documents on the computers local hard drive.
Along with a Graphic EQ,
Headphone Amplification System, a solid Shotgun Microphone and plenty of
back up Audio Cables at
my disposal there is one other key component necessary in a Pro Audio Rig
which is a Power Conditioner.
The power
conditioner is also a rack mountable component much like a Surge Protector. However, its benefits are greater since it monitors the voltage coming into
your set up and regulates it so that no damage can potentially occur to your costly equipment if there happens to be a spike
in the electrical current.
